Benefit They're Real Mascara

Hi lovelies! I hope that you are having a wonderful start to the week. Today I wanted to talk about a product that has been such a big disappointment that I had to share it with you. I actually purchased it intending to use it for my wedding (which is coming up very soon by the way!) and I am so glad that I tested it out before the big day because it would have turned my makeup into a disaster!

I really feel like a sucker for good marketing sometimes and this one sucked me right in! Just like all other Benefit products, this one had funky advertising but this one also made some big claims - it contains statistics like "94% saw dramatic length and volume" and "90% saw base to tip curl". Needless to say, I had high expectations from this mascara and the fact that it set me back $38.00 also contributed towards that.

Don't get me wrong, it's not as if this mascara is THAT bad to start with. I will be the first to admit that it does actually lengthen and define your lashes quite nicely. On the other hand, it is nothing spectacular. In all honesty, I found that I got better results from my Maybelline Volum Express Mascara which cost $19.25 rather than this one which is double the price (check out the photos in my review of the Maybelline mascara to see what I mean).

On the packaging Benefit describes this mascara as "the jet black, long-wearing formula won't smudge or dry out. The exclusive brush is specially designed to maximize the performance of the long-wearing, glossy formula-revealing lashes you never knew you had!". Boy is this misleading! After wearing this mascara after only an hour, you start to notice that the formula is not at all long-wearing and actually smears all over your brow bone. As you wear the mascara longer, this mascara just smudges and gets messier as you wear it - there is nothing pretty or glamorous about looking like a panda!

I actually can't recall using any other mascara that has smudged as much as this one. Even on a day at the office where it is not too hot, it still goes everywhere and it forces me to constantly keep checking my makeup.

Even though this mascara separates my lashes nicely, there is no way I would ever wear it to a special occasion, let alone my wedding! I think that the brush included with this mascara is great and allows you to reach even the smallest lashes, but the formula lets it down big time. I would say that the formula of this mascara is more on the dry side although not so dry that you can't work with it (not as dry as the Napoleon Perdis Madame Beyond mascara).

Overall, I would not recommend this mascara and will definitely not be repurchasing it. Although if you are interested in purchasing it, it retails at $38.00 at the Benefit counter at my local Myer.

That's a shame that you don't like it! I love it, and i haven't had any problems with it. In fact i find it hard to get off sometimes. I guess it's not for everyone!

Oh what a shame. I love this mascara. The only problem I have with it is that it's stubborn to remove! Oh well, what works for one doesn't work for all. I'm going to try Eye of Horus mascara next.

I quite liked this at first, then found it ridiculously difficult to remove, and the wand always poked me in the eye!

With all the hype with this product I was starting to think I was alone in my dislike of it. Glad it's not just me! I also get serious panda eyes from this one every time I've tried it :(

Oh I love this mascara. I have been using it constantly ever since I first discovered it. For those of you having trouble with removal, the Bioderma Crealine H20 takes it of without any trouble. You don't have to pick or scrub at it. Hope that helps :)
