Review of the Revlon PhotoReady Foundation

I never thought the day would come when I would absolutely hate a Revlon product. Ever since I discovered Revlon makeup back in my high school days, I have always loved each Revlon purchase I have made, until now.

I bought the Revlon PhotoReady Compact foundation as an impulse purchase when I had run out of my usual Mac foundation and wanted a bit of a change. I wish that I had researched it before buying it because it's not exactly cheap, costing $34.95 at my local Target.

At the time I purchased this foundation, I was looking for a medium coverage foundation that would cover some of my blemishes which I had at the time. The description at the back of the product provides "cream makeup instantly liquifies for complete coverage and superior blendability. Lightweight power finish. Perfected airbrushed skin in any light". After reading this, I thought this foundation was exactly what I was looking for and it contains SPF 20 which was an added bonus.

I purchased this product in the shade 100 - Vanilla which matches my skin tone really well in winter. The packaging is nice and compact so it is easy to take with you to use on the go because you also receive a sponge and a mirror.

Unfortunately I feel like this product was a complete waste of money for several reasons. Firstly, the packaging is ok but the 'liquefying screen' which is like a mesh on top of the creamy product, gets in the way of getting an even amount of product on the sponge. This means that you get a streaky application which is hard to blend. In order to combat this, I did figure out that the mesh screen can be easily removed without damaging the product.

The most disappointing thing about this product is that it gives no coverage whatsoever so there is no way you can achieve 'airbrushed skin' that it claims. When you apply this product, the results are what you get from a tinted moisturiser and not a foundation. I usually love light coverage foundation, and the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation is one of my favorites in that category, but this PhotoReady foundation takes light coverage to a whole new level of light! This product is also not buildable so there is no way for you to get more coverage from it and applying more product just removes existing product off your skin.

I also don't feel like it dries to a powder like finish and just looks oily on your skin rather than giving you a matte finish. When you touch your face it wipes off instantly so it is definitely not something that will last all day without constant touch-ups.

I usually do not write such negative reviews about a product but I feel that it is my job as your beauty blogger to write honest reviews about products even though they might be negative.

Have you tried the Revlon PhotoReady Compact foundation? What did you think of it?

What a shame! I was considering giving this a go but now anymore! I definitely need more coverage than that, so definitely a pass!
    Thanks for sharing! :)

Haven't tried it before, and I don't think I ever will thanks to your review. I don't normally use powder foundations anyway, I prefer liquid + powder on top to set.

I have tried a really disappointing foundation quite a while ago when it first came out - L'oreal Roll'on true match foundation. It was such a gimmicky applicator, as it didn't apply really well, and there wasn't much coverage either.

I'm not really into powder foundations so I haven't tried a lot. I've heard that the Nars one is good, so I'll be giving that one a try! To be honest I don't buy a lot of "drug store" makeup because I don't have much faith in them. I'd rather spend the extra money on a quality product, than to have a few products that are just ok. I love the honesty in this post!

OMG $34.95 for a Revlon Foundation? I must really be out of the loop! I used Bobbi Brown stick foundation which is $41 and it's definitely it worth it.

I agree with some of the others on this post, it's better to buy foundation from a beauty counter. Eyeshadows and stuff like that can be good value for money with the cheaper brands but I always get my foundation/concealer/powder from a counter!

Yea I agree with you there. Especially after experiences like this, I think it's worth spending the extra money on a better product because it ends up cheaper in the long run.
    Thanks for reading :)

I think the price difference is due to the fact that makeup (& everything else) is very expensive in Australia. Over here that Bobbi Brown foundation is approximately $60 :-( and not $41 sadly. Wish we had American prices over here.
